How do I apply to register with the agency?

How often does the agency pay?
The agency pays direct into your bank account every fortnight.

What checks are done on agency staff?
All staff are interviewed and at least 2 references are taken. A 10 year work history is required. A POVA (Protection of Vulnerable Adults) check from the Criminal Records Bureau is taken.

Is the agency registered with any governing body?
Yes, the agency is registered with the Commission for Social Care Inspection. Investor in People status was achieved in December 2004.

What checks are carried out on the agency?
The agency is registered with CSCI and must comlpy with set minimum standards. Inspection reports from CSCI are available.

What training do staff receive?
All mandatory training is offered by First Call. All other training is offered on individual merit.
What hours is the office open?

The agency operates 24 hours per day and 7 days per week.
Do you employ overseas nurses?
Applicants with regulatory paperwork are considered equally with other applicants.

Do you offer a home care service?
First Call offer a service to assist at home with a minimum duration of 4 hours.

Moving & Handling
Covering all aspects of Moving & Handling legislation. Theory and practical,
covering use of equipment and personal safety.
Health & Safety
First Call offer Health & Safety training in care homes covering risk assessment,
accident prevention and infection control.

Food Hygiene
The one day Foundation in Food Safety (Royal Institute of Public Health) course
is offered by First Call. This covers all aspects of food safety required by
health care workers and chefs/kitchen assistants. Food

Diabetes & Heart Disease
A basic 4 hour course covering the physiology, monitoring and care of residents
with diabetes and/or heart disease. Aimed at carers in residential and nursing
homes.

Abuse
A 4 hour course defining abuse and highlighting the plight of the vulnerable.
Including what can be done to prevent abuse and how to report it.
Induction for Carers
A 5 day course icorporating the TOPPS Standards. Including all of the above.

How can First Call Help?
For any of the above, your staff can attend one of First Call's training sessions.
Alternatively if you require training for 6 or more the training can be carried
out at your own premises.
